🗓️ Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha / Karatu → Empakaai Crater (Trek Begins)
  • Drive from Arusha or Karatu to Ngorongoro Highlands

  • Meet trekking crew and Maasai guides at trailhead

  • Begin 2–3 hour hike to Empakaai Crater rim

  • Descend into the crater on foot (if conditions allow)

  • Overnight at fly camp near Empakaai
    Accommodation: Wilderness fly camp

  • Hike along scenic ridge trails with stunning views of the Great Rift Valley

  • Cross remote Maasai grazing lands and volcanic slopes

  • Wildlife sightings possible: zebra, antelope, baboons

  • Camp beneath acacia trees near Naiyobi village
    Accommodation: Wilderness fly camp

  • Continue descent to the rift valley floor

  • Final leg of the trek offers expansive views of Ol Doinyo Lengai

  • Arrival at Lake Natron—known for flamingos and dramatic landscapes

  • Rest and explore the lakeshore in the evening
    Accommodation: Lake Natron Lodge or basic tented camp

  • Optional morning walk to waterfalls or flamingo viewpoint

  • Visit local Maasai community

  • Transfer back to Arusha or continue onward travel
